Description
An incredible and historic pen and watercolour painting of a day in court during The Yorkshire Ripper Trial. Peter Sutcliffe is sitting in the dock looking towards his wife Sonia in the right foreground, who in turn is looking disgustedly away from her husband, whilst the proceedings carry on around them. Michael Frith was the court artist for the trial and this is one of the few full watercolours that were done of the trial. It is signed twice and dated 1981. The picture is framed, mounted and glazed. The frame dimensions are 80 x 64 cm with the picture itself being 57 x 40 cm.
Michael Frith was born in 1951 and graduated as a graphic designer from Canterbury College of Art and Design. He has worked for many years as an illustrator for many newspapers, magazines, publishers, etc., including The Times, Telegraph, Newsweek, Time, etc. His work has covered court cases, food and portraiture. He has a portrait of Robert Maxwell hanging in The National Portrait Gallery. His limited edition prints are selling on his own website for upwards of £1,000.
