Description

A fine little painting in Pastels by Peter W G Coombs of two steam trains at a large train station. One train is pulling its carriages out as another pulls in with three passengers waiting on the platform. The painting is mounted and glazed in a simple decorative frame. The frame measures 39 x 37 cm (15.5″ x 14.5″), with the painting itself being 17 x 14 cm (6.5″ x 5.5″).

Peter W G Coombs British

Coombs was born in London in 1929 the son of a train driver for LMS (London Midland and Scottish Railways). He grew up wanting to be a train driver and did serve an apprenticeship with LMS, but in their road dept. as a motor mechanic. Peter worked for many years for the aircraft manufacturing company Handley Page as an engine fitter. It was here that his love for art took off, he joined the HP art club and eventually left to become a full time artist. He is a very well known locomotive artist.
